Saat ini, perkembangan dalam sistem pendidikan di sektor kesehatan dan perkembangan tehnologi kedokteran telah berdampak pada penurunan angka kematian bayi baru lahir dan peningkatan angka keberhasilan hidup bayi baru lahir, bahkan bayi dengan risiko tinggi seperti bayi prematur, bayi dengan riwayat hipoksia, dan sebagainya. Hal tersebut juga berkontribusi pada makin banyaknya anak-anak dengan kebutuhan khusus seperti anak-anak dengan cerebral palsy, retardasi mental dan defek neural untuk tetap bertahan hidup. Hal ini juga didukung dengan peningkatan kesadaran terhadap hak-hak asasi manusia.

Anak-anak dengan kebutuhan khusus, didefinisikan sebagai anak yang mengalami retardasi secara mental, mengalami kesulitan pendengaran, ketulian, ketidakmampuan berbicara,  mengalami gangguan penglihatan atau kebutaan, mengalami gangguan emosional berat, mengalami kerusakan secara ortopedi, multi-handicap, bisu-tuli, atau memiliki ketidakmampuan belajar secara khusus, yang karena ketidakmampuan-ketidakmampuan tersebut, mereka membutuhkan pendidikan dan pelayanan kesehatan yang khusus dari pendidik, pemberi layanan kesehaan seperti dokter, fisioterapis, psikoterapis, dan orang tua mereka sendiri untuk  meningkatkan kualitas hidup mereka.

Berdasarkan latar belakang tersebut, Program Studi Ilmu Keperawatan, Fakultas Kedokteran UGM bekerja sama dengan Kobe University, Graduate School of Health Sciences, Jepang, berinisiatif untuk menyelenggarakan Seminar Internasional ke-7 dengan tema Peran Sistem Pandidikan dan Pemberdayaan dalam Meningkatkan Kualitas Hidup Anak dengan Kebutuhan Khusus (The Role of Education and Empowerment Systems for Optimizing the Quality Life of Handicap Children). Acara ini merupakan salah satu rangkaian kegiatan Dies Natalis ke-64 Fakultas Kedokteran UGM

Millennium Development Goals (MDG) has been endorsed by World Health Organization (WHO) in 2000. It contains the universal framework for developing countries’ development. MDG consists of 8 goals: eradicate the extreme poverty and hunger, achieve universal primary education, promote gender equality and empower women, reduce child mortality, improve maternal health, combat IV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases, ensure environmental sustainability and develop a global partnership for development. Apart from that progress, there are still some challenges particularly in health area. These challenges are believed as result of not only the MD Goals haven’t been achieved yet, but also as a result of Global Warming, particularly caused by human errors, lack of attention from authorities in each government, or lack of consideration in anticipating further problems. The first challenge is high number in HIV prevalence and the increasing number of people dying

Guideline for Abstract

The Committee uploaded several topics for abstracts, participants have to choose one of the topics to be written as their abstract.

The Abstract characteristic:

  1. Approximately 250 words
  2. Should be written in English, Times New Roman, Font 12
  3. Give your email or fax
  4. Write detail identity of yours
  5. Deadline submission the abstract in July 31, 2009 through the email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with subject ABSTRACT
  6. Abstract should consist of BACKGROUND, METHOD, RESULT, CONCLUSION, KEYWORD
  7. The example of the abstract can be seen below

The notification of acceptance will be sent you by email or fax in August 31, 2009.
